L’Oiseau Bleu is a foundation that helps students from special education prepare for the next step in their lives. Through creative workshops, students work on their confidence, social skills and ability to think about their future education or career.

For L’Oiseau Bleu, I edited a 2:20-minute promotional video about their workshops, turning around 30 minutes of interview footage into one clear and engaging story. The interviews were recorded with founder and workshop leader Ivar Berkman, workshop leader and theatre maker Marnix Vinkenborg, and one of the participating students. The filming was done by Elodie Vreeburg.

The main challenge was not simply cutting the interviews down, but finding the right story within the material. The final video does not follow the original order of the interviews. Instead, I rearranged statements from different interviews and combined them in a way that makes the conversation feel natural and continuous. Even though the sentences were originally recorded at different moments and often in a completely different order, the final edit makes it feel like everything was said with the same story in mind.

The story follows a clear structure: the problem → the solution → proof → impact → the bigger goal. This meant making careful editorial decisions about what to include, what to leave out, and which statements could naturally follow or strengthen each other. The goal was to create one coherent story from very different pieces of interview material, without making the editing itself noticeable.

I also used B-roll throughout the video to support what is being said and give the audience a better sense of the workshops in practice. The footage helps illustrate the activities, interactions and atmosphere of the workshops while keeping the video visually engaging and the story moving.

The result is a short promotional video that gives viewers a clear understanding of what L’Oiseau Bleu does, why their workshops matter, and how they can help students take the next step with more confidence.
